Steps Down to the Boat

This is from a poem of the Swedish playwright, novelist and essayist August Strindberg (1849-1912).

He fled from devastation

and steered his steps down to
the boat. Footprints in the sand !

He cursed and wanted to flee, but

then he noticed that he was cursing
himself and then he under-
stood why the gulls and the viper
and the others fled, and he trod
again in his own tracks, for surely
he couldn't flee from himself.

Life in the Countryside

No amenities here ... take the stairs up on the stone wall and walk right out of the woods. Or wait ... it's an arrow there ...
