Hay Barn

During the Finnish Winter War in the 1940s, these barns were used by young men "forest guards"... deserted soldiers ... who hid away from the war. Punishment of those arrested were firing squad.

The yellow church

                                                           Jakobstad Church

Built in 1731 on the same site as the city's first church from 1691 ... which was burned by the Russians during the Great Hate 1714.

Poppy Poems

The Poppy is a symbol of hope ... the Finnish word for poppy is Unikko ... uni means dream, vision and plan for the future.
In many countries celebrated Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day) November 11, to honor the fallen soldiers in both world wars.

Between the poetry that lives in your heart and poppy are

a contract
written by the wind and signed by the decay ..

Harry Martinson

Now flowers for your volatile fragile sake
Poppy, your flower.
For your sake, I lift the banner of opium.
or your sake I drink, spilling my wine.

Laredo Guitar

This is an old Laredo guitar that we have standing here at home.

Dreams of Solace

TO THE SHADOW OF A REALITY

You are one of my dreams -
good if no one wakes me! -
one of my beautiful candles,
that darkness not cover me.
Fighter for goals so pale,
ice and glass and sharpened steel!
The brilliant day
I scarce know if the dream will bear.

There is solace in the dream's perfumes,

cool, scarcely perceptible.
Yet I would give them all away
for the earthly real.
Warmth of dear beautiful hands...
I want to love, not fantasize.
Life's ripeness
the dream will never imitate.

This was not meant to be a blog with poetry ... rather with photos.

But I have noticed that it's quite fun to bring
a poem to the image... so there will certainly be more of them.

Rusty Power

I have absolutely no idea what it is.

I'm not that good in Finnish, but I have tried to translate what it says.
Imatra is a town ... and voima means strength, power.
Meri means sea and Pori is a town.
Outokumpu is is an international stainless steel company.

The national poet of Finland

Statue of Johan Ludvig Runeberg, Pietarsaari, Finland

Who has given the wind wisdom,
Lent the air a tongue so lightsome,
Ready speech to the yard's rowan,
An the small birds' tender bevy?

The house in the water

Here I want to live.
Water ... own jetty ... the sun ...summer... silence.
